You don't make a CD or DVD drive "primary", you set it first in line for booting in the bios.

Turn off your machine. Turn it back on. At the first screen look for the instructions of which key to press to enter bios on your particular system. Turn off machine again, and reboot, when you hit that screen which showed the key to press, press the key once or twice gently. Some systems require the key to be pressed only once, but doing so more than once won't hurt in any.

Once you are in the bios, use your arrow keys to highlight your boot sequence. Go to that section and then put your CD drive as number one in the list and follow the onscreen instructions on how to save and then exit bios. Now when you put a CD into the tray it will boot from the CD in that tray. You can also do this with your DVD drive. Once you are finished doing what it is you are doing, go back to the bios and reset it to boot from your primary hard drive or whichever drive you have the OS installed on, which should be C drive.

Good luck and have a great day!

p.s. Setup and bios are two seperate sections of your computer. Be very careful in either one and please know what you are doing once inside. Don't mess around in there, put the CD drive as first boot and get out. You can look around in bios or setup but please don't push any buttons or keys by mistake, as you can totally kill your machine!

On many newer systems, the boot preferences are set in the system bios. When the system boots you can enter the bios by ether holding delete key or F1 or F2 or F12. If it is not one of those buttons there should be a message on the screen telling what to hold.

Once in your bios search for boot preferences (as in look around for boot preferences.) Once there if you computer is capable of booting from the CD drive, then you should be able to set it as a boot preference. Make sure that it is before your primary hard drive and the boot sequence, or the PC will not boot from the CD rom drive, and will boot from whatever is listed before in boot preferences. Once you have enabled these settings, make sure to save settings and exit. If you think you have made a mistake anywhere in the bios, do not save settings and start over.

Good Luck!

you need to go into the bios and alter the boot sequence with the cd drive above the hard drive
cd drive set to first boot device
hard disk set to second boot device
how you enter the bios is determined by the make of bios it usually tell you when you boot it'll say something like press Del to enter setup
it may even be F1 or F2 you need to press
when you're in the bios look for boot options when done exit and save

Hi. Your BIOS sets the order of boot devices. Just make sure they are in the order you want. Mine is set to boot ONLY from HDD0 and speed the boot process. I change it for booting from CD-ROM.
