Now the door open light is on, on the dash; all doors/trunk are shut. I need to find the sensor

I fixed this problem in my 1997 Taurus by spraying WD-40 directly into the door latch mechanism on the door. I've had to do the driver's door and passenger door at different times, and in both cases it worked instantly and hasn't been a problem since. Spray plenty of WD-40 into the latch assembly and open/close the door a few times.

First make sure the dash light dimmer is not turned up all the way. If it is, then that turns on the dome light.

Some times the door switches will short out and keep a ground on the wiring, that will keep the light on. You could have a grounded wire somewhere in the door panel, the wire could have been rubbing against a sharp edge and wore through the insulation and now it's grounded and keeping the light on. Good luck

Look where the door connects the body of the car. Somewhere on that part there should be a little switch poking out that is spring loaded to close when you shut the door.
