No.

The British would have been capable of blockading the American rebels if the French had not become involved.

Then the USA would still be part of the British Empire....hurrah !

While there is no doubt that the French greatly helped the American rebels, expecially in the area of finances, so much so that they launched themselves into their own revolution, I think the American rebels would still have won.

The Americans were by far the underdogs, they did not have the training or the supplies that the British had. They did later receive supplies from the French. The French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vergennes, was eager to help the Americans rebel against France's long-time enemy, England.

Despite the Amerian fall-backs, they had a number of advantages. They had the stronger will to fit, a rage-militaire, they were fighting on their own turf, and they had better leaders. The British suffered greatly from their lack of competent leaders: high positions of the army, and everywhere else in society, went to people of noble birth, whether they were qualified or not. The British also had their hands full with their other colonies throughout the world, which benefited the Americans in that they could not use all of their resources against the us.

I have taken both an American Revultion and a French Revolution class within the past two years in college, and while I can clearly see that the French helped the Americans right into their own revolution, I still beileve that the Americans could have won without their aid. I am not trying to downplay the aid that the French sent; it was needed and appreciated. The war would have possibly lasted a litte longer, but the colonial minutemen and militia, more so than the army, were a strong force against British advances.

No, I do not think that the American Revolution would have been successful without the French.

I also think that the AR would have failed without Casmir Pulaski, the Polish man who trained the American cavalry. Outside of Chicago, not many people seem to know who was, but he really saved the rebels.

No not really. Although they did not do much they had a vital role in the last battle. They completely strengthened the Amerrican army. Plus the British forces had a huge reinforcement coming. The French demolished the reinforcements that could have saved the Britsh. Hope that helps!
