You could trace it back to cave men rolling around in a cave if you wanted if you're talking about the actual sport. the spectical of pro wrestling originated in carnivals where Bull's (men who bark out to the audience and get their attention) would pay off a local home town hero to job to the Carnival's big man in order to scam an audience out of their bets against the carney. After that it turned into somewhat of an actual sport of men basically doing amature in a ring, ending it with holds like a bear hug or drop toehold. This was real professional wrestling, and it didn't last too long. Then we went into the golden age of Gorgeous George and Lou Thesz. In this era, a few men started using gimmicks and drawing in crowds.
