When a person enters lucid dreaming, the environment becomes very realistic. Lucid dreaming is when you are aware of the fact your asleep and know your dreaming. Also when you wake up suddenly there might be a chance that the dream is still is being resonated within your visual functions. This might also be a case of night terror and could lead to other sleep disorders like sleep apnea and hypnic jerks. You may want to see a doctor if the problems persist. Might want to cut down on those sci-fi movies before bedtime as well ;]

You have a type of sleep disorder in which your eyes are open during REM (Rapid Eye Movements. Millions of people experience this. Go to your doctor and tell him. What happens to you is that your eyes are open when they should be shut in deep sleep. Since they're open, you feel awake and unable to control your surroundings. Type in Sleep disorders on google.
P.S. Would an alien travel millions or even billions of miles on a trip that might take years just to scare some poor guy like you. Just words of encouragement. Bye.

Well I'm not sure if aliens are fiction or not, it is plausible that they exist but I highly doubt you saw an alien. If anything they'd be studying the atmosphere and the planet itself. I would say you were only half awake..like you were still in a dream but your foot was in the door to reality.

I don't know, i'm rather opened-minded about these things. You may even have a history of abduction or other visitations. Read the book "Communion" by Whitley Streiber. I think it's it also a movie starring Christopher Walken.
Fascimating book about his personal experiences, freaked me out a bit.
If other civilizations exist, they are more advanced than we..

my mum had something similar & we all laughed at her because we thought she was a bit mad, but she'd actually had a heart attack. I'm not lying, thats the real truth.
but she also spoke of the alien trying to get into her chest.

No, but I woke up one night in 1973 and an old man was standing at the foot of my bed. Long story short, it was the ghost of the old man who lived there in his last years.
