In the new computer, make sure the drive you are putting it jumper is set to slave and plug it into the center connector of the IDE cable with the red wire towards the 4 prong power plug. XP will setup the new drive and you can get all of your documents. You can keep the drive if its still good. After its empty or you are done, Right click My Computer and go to Manage. On the left look for Disk Management, then at the bottom of the next window look for the second drive (If there are only 2 drives, it will be Disk 1) right click and delete the partition then right click and create a new partition. Format using NTSF and name it if you want or New Volume is the default name. after its done right click again and set as active. You can even setup new programs on your new drive and also increase your pagefile system. If you want to set a higher page volume, you can set 2048-4096 for each drive. I have 10 drives and each has 4Gb. page file. Right click on My Computer and go down to properties. On the advanced tab, then at the top in Performance, click Settings. On the advanced tab there, go down to Virtual Memory, click change. In the middle click on change, and set the top to 2048, and the bottom to 4096 then click "Set". Then at the top select the other drive and repeat this process. You will have to restart your computer.

You can remove the hard drive from your old system and plug it into a working computer as a Slave Drive and either use it as is or take the files off it that you need.

BTW, this can be done temporary, meaning you can connect it to a working computer, get the files you want then take it out again. Especially if it's being done in a friend's computer, etc,,,

Seach for "External Harddrive case". They are about $15~$25. You can just take the harddrive out of your old computer and plug it in to any computer with a NSB plug.

remove the hard drive from the computer then put it in a different one. Save the files you want to keep then reformat the drive.
