How do you avoid getting points on your license for a citation for speeeding? I was driving in a residential area at what the officers radar allegedly clocked me at 47 in a 25 speed zone. He stated that he would give me a break and not document reckless driving but failure to obey a traffic sign. I have never recieved a speeding fine all of my years of driving 17 years. This incident occured in virginia.

You will have to go in person and ask for a speed reduction. No points on you'll license (if you get it under 10 over, not sure about VA) but you will have to pay more for it. It's worth it in my opinion. In Georgia when I was under 21 and I almost my lost my license for driving 25 mph over, but I got it reduced to 7 over. They don't like you doing speed reductions too often but every now and then it's okay.

You are very lucky. Reckless driving would have put lots of points, and jacked up your insurance. I doubt traffic school would be able to take them off. Pay your fine and take the traffic school. I took online traffic school once, in California and it was easy. Good luck!

before the court date.
go to the court house and plead your case in front of the Magistrate (yes, there are magistrates in the US)
they will still find you guilty , having to pay the fines BUT there will NO points added
all they really want is the $$$
