The Sugarhill Gang.Rapper's Delight was the first hip hop single to become a Top 40 hit. The track uses the bass line from "Good Times" by CHIC as its foundation. The members, all from New York City, called themselves Wonder Mike, Big Bank Hank, and Marsta Gee. They were assembled into a group by producer Sylvia Robinson who also founded Sugar Hill Records along with her husband record mogul Joe Robinson.

The term "rap" is also claimed to be derived from the title of Rapper's Delight.

It was released in 1979

The song "Rapper's Delight", considered by many to be one of the first REAL rap records of it's time, was released in the Summer of 1978 by The Sugarhill Gang on Sugarhill Records. It peaked at number two in the UK charts and many say the reason for it's huge success was not down to the rapping, but mainly due to the fact that it "borrowed" the main guitar riff from Chic's disco classic "Good Times". Hope that helps!

I think you're talking about "Good Times" by CHIC. Well, that's where the Sugarhill Gang (who performed "Rapper's Delight) got the beat from.
