Ok. I'm supposed to find the equation for what you have to do to x to get y.

when x is 1 y is -1
when x is 2 y is -3
when x is 3 y is -5
when x is 4 y is -7

What is the equation?

If you plot the points on a graph and then calculate the slope and y intercept you will have your equation.
Slope is how steep the line is, or simply how many "boxes" (on a graph) up/down divided by how many "boxes" left/right, one must go to get to the next point on the line.

The equation for a line is
y=mx+b
Just find slope(m) and the yintercept(b) and fill them in and you have your equation. Then fill in the x and y values you are given to check if you are correct.

Add the two numbers together, but disregard the minus sign in front of the "Y" number, then subtract that total from X to get Y.

1+1 = 2
x-2 = y

Same rule will apply for the other problems.

Here's a hint. Plot those points on a graph. That should give you some idea of what kind of equation you're looking for....

Have you asked your teacher or a classmate? That would be a more responsible choice.
