when i stop at a stop sign my car brakes lock up so i have to put it on PARK & turn it off to start it back up. when i start it up the car works just fine.

when i stop at a stop sign my car brakes lock up and on the dash board the BRAKES light comes on so i have to put it on PARK & turn it off to start it back up. when i start it up the car works just fine.

Thats easy.. You need a new brake booster. The big round dish type thing on the back wall of the engine compartment. When you turn the engine off, the vacuum goes away and it releases the brakes.

you may have leaking wheel cylinders, when they leak your brake shoes get wet and when you come to a stop they can lock up on you, also sometimes you may hear a sqawking noise when braking.
