So I looking over my praposed divorce agreement. My stbxw lawyer wrote it. It reads like a 5 year old wrote it. So I am now annotating it. I have tried to be thorough as to cover all points as to protect my self now and in the future and take my childs interest in to consideration.

What things would you put in it or think would be good for me to cover? i want to get all my bases now.

My bad I did not clarify. I have a lawyer and have covered all the basics. Mortgage, child support, maintanence, etc. But it is the little caveats I am looking for. For example, my stbxw changed religions. I put in that I wanted my child raised in my faith and not changed to another of some guy she may marry in the future.

If you are as smart as you think you are, you will come off your wallet and consult an attorney of your own. You realize that the people that are going to answer this are from all over the place and not familiar with your personal local laws and customs. If you don't want to have the opportunity to lament your penny wise pound foolish ways you will talk to friends locally find someone who had a successful divorce and hire their attorney.

I think you should get your own lawyer to look over what your wife's lawyer has written. He or she can best tell you how to protect yourself and your children. It' won't cost that much to have your own lawyer just read the agreement and advise you what should be omitted or added to the original document.

A man who acts as his own lawyer has a fool as a lawyer. And, that is what you are doing. You are not relying on what your lawyer advised you because you think he is "stupid". But, although you are qualified to know what you want you are not qualified to know how to write it or the legal ramifications of it. Hire another lawyer.

Oh, gosh. Where to begin...you want to discuss custody, visitation, etc for your kid. You need to cover all the current bills and financial obligions, if you have a mortgage, you need to address that and if house needs to be sold or paid for. Cars and other possessions need to be addressed. Taxes need to be addressed. Maybe you need a new attorney.

If you are unhappy with your attorney, hire another one. There are no shortcuts with divorce issues, especially with children involved. Get a good attorney you can trust.
