you need to get 500 points to reach 2nd rank, it is dumb but you have to reach your 2nd rank to unlock your 1st weapon. but if you want to level up fairly fast, and if you have a good computer, join a large server (32-64 players) and be medic. dont charge into battle but move with a group of people, when they die, revive them and unless you are going covert dont stop giving health kits. if you are going covert, hold the pack, if you drop one, anyone can see it and will be only too glad to sneak up and kill you. once you get your 1st unlock (this is if you dont have the SF expansion pack) i am in love with the G36C spec ops weapon unlock, accurate as anything in single shot and a good cqb weapon as well. if you want power go with the G3 not the most accurate but its the most power per shot you can get in an assault rifle, the M95 sniper isnt as accurate as the 1st weapons, i dont reccomend it. the 2 shotguns (engineer and anti tank) i avoid, more shots to kill than the pump. PKM should only be used in 3-4 shot bursts or you wont hit anything even if theyre 10 feet in front of you. L85 medic gun is accurate, not real powerful but if you like being medic its a fairly good. again i covered the anti tank kit but the 1st weapon, the MP5 is a good cqb weapon.
if you have sf (i dont) then the 1st thing you should get is the medics G36K accurate POWERFUL AS A SON OF A GUN keep it in burst, 2-3 clicks they die, this fires FAST, noone will have a chance. SCAR-L is good as well, red dot scope as well, some like it more than the g36c because of this. thats all the SF weapons ive used so far hope this helps you out

I do play BF2, however have switched over to BF2142 and play that more.
Best tip anyone can give is to join a squad that actually works well as a team. Joining clans that play the game (most of them host the servers you play on, just check out their websites and see about joining them) is also a very, very good way to get better. Typically clans use teamwork to achieve goals, rather than individuals running around trying to cap flags solo.
Also, use the voip. If you don't have a microphone, get one. Being able to actually speak to your squad members, and hear them speak back, is very valuable. They point out dangers, make you aware of what they can see that you can't.
If you want a good clan, I am still in the recruiting phase, but I will be joining 82nd Infantry Division, or 82ndID. Check em out http://www.82ndid.com. Also, if you have the money to get a new game, I would highly recommend Battlefield 2142. It puts BF2 to shame in fun and play.
Good luck. See you on the Battlefield.

Two tips, get the expansion pack Special Forces, you get double unlocks when you reach a new rank.
Join a mature group of gamers and play with the same group a lot. You'll pick up some valuable experience while having a blast with a bunch of online friends.
I've been playing various games with the same core group of guys for almost 7 years now and we have a blast every night. We just left BF2 for 2142 but still play quite a bit of BF2.

Play in pistol/knife only rooms to upgrade faster, you can get around 400 points in an hour if you are good. Be a medic and hide behind supply crates, or be support and pass out ammo

i'm notably specific the 'bf2' you're conversing approximately is Battlefield 2, this is a widespread guy or woman Shooter video recreation. those 'clans' are communities of gamers who play below one banner on line.
