For the past few months my electric bill here in north Texas has been climbing at an alarming rate and I was wondering if I am possibly being overcharged. There was something about many residences being charged in this manner on the news.

As a single person at home who barely uses any electricity other than for heating and I keep the thermostat at a constant 72 degrees (but ONLY when it is cold...mind you), otherwise I don't even turn on the heat at all. So I can't for the life of me figure out why my bill is over $300 the past couple of months!

Can someone please inform me who I can contact about extensive rate hikes other than a representative from the electric company as they are no help at all. I would like for someone to check into this more in depth just to make sure that my heating cost are absolutely true in addition to being fair.

I have cut back on so many things and even considering unplugging the refrigerator at night and anything else with a plug in device.

Well I would want to know if it was the rate or the usage? Our electric bills come with a graph of the last 12 months of KWH usage. So you could compare this March to last year and all in between.

I have a small office whose monthly bill kept creeping up. I plotted my KWH monthly to show a seasonal trend. My USAGE is virtually unchanged since 2000, but clearly the rate has climbed.

I only say this because dumb things can happen that suck you electricity without you knowing it. Here's a few odd balls I've stumbled across... Outside A/C Compressor unit. Had a bad thermostat in a bad heater that keeps oil out of the piston area. Was drawing 5 amps at 240V all winter! A stuck sump pump. Water heater element that got a hole in it. Ended up drawing more juice. Hard foam panels that the builder used to cap my return air ducts shrunk after 10 years and was sucking hot attic air and trying to cool it! In winter it was pulling cold attic air to heat.

A good question to ask your Electric company is whether it is a flat rate for electricity or does the rate change with the demand? I

Don't unplug the Frig, unless you don't have any food in it or don't care if you get Ecoli.
