Person 1: Has only worked in one place, as a cook in a restaurant for 4 years. This is the only work experience this person has, but has been able to stay committed to that job for four years.

Person 2: Has held a variety of jobs over the course of those 4 years ranging from server at a restaurant, to being a loader for fedex trucks, to working as a sales associate at a local sporting goods store. This person never got fired, never got bad remarks from his or her bosses, rather left the job due to time constraints with school or etc.

This is assuming both of these people are the same age, have the same academics, everything is the same except for this. Who would you rather hire and why?

This is for say, an entry level position at some business. And this is also assuming both of these people have just graduated from college. This is their first REAL job.

##2 sounds interesting. he has had the opportunity to work with all sorts of people.
He may not have been lucky enough to find the job # 1 has. Or, is he a "job hopper.?"

This is a dilemma. You have 2 candidates who are interesting, but can only hire one..

I lean towards # 2. I would, however, like to have someone else interview both, ( my boss) and get some feedback.

Depends on what the job is, but I would say Person 1. Being consistently employed for 4 years shows commitment and perserverence. Person 2 is jumping from job to job and probably will not stay long. Also, if Person 2 is going to school, he has plans to do something else anyway.

What is the job you are thinking of hiring him for? Give him a skills based test to see if he can do the job... if its cooking, the the first guy. The second guy does show a wide range of interests, and that would be good for a sales job, but if you want someone to stick around...

It depends on how much experience you are looking for. Find out if #2 is still going to school, or if they have any time restraints coming up in the future. Otherwise, I would personally go for #1 because of their stability.

Depends. Am I hiring a cook, or a warehouse clerk?

If I'm hiring a cook, I want #1. If general labor, I'll consider #2.

depends on the job... but, personally, I'd go for the cook... stability, and well, I was a chef, so I know the demands, and to do that for 4 years... well, that says something.

I would go with #2, all else being the same. He has worked several places and done several things. He has satisfied several bosses.
