You usually know if it's male or female.
The rest is up for grabs..that's part of the fun getting to know your roomate and hoping you will like them. Remember they don't know you either.
Have fun and study hard.
Good Luck!

Usually the college will send you a letter late in the summer once your rooms have been assigned. They'll give you the name and any contact information they are allowed to release (depends on the size of the school and their policies). I went to UCLA, and all I got were their names, didn't know anything about them till I moved in... and discovered one was my best friend's cousin!

Your college will most likely notify you with the info on your future roommate / dormmate. It will be up to you to contact them so that you don't end up with duplicate things in your room. Usually the dorms are real small so you don't want to bring things that you won't use.

The housing office of your college/university will supply you with this information if the person has agreed to share this info. I would hope you would ask the office to give the other person yours as well.
