Well, take it to your local Wal-Mart, Sears, or Autozone, they will check it for free.

If your car stops when it is on, then it is probably the alternator's fault because the car runs fully from the alternator after it is started.

You can get an economical tester that will give you the voltage output from the alternator. Fords need more voltage at the starter than some cars in order to engage the starter. If your alternator is not charging the battery, you won't have enough juice to kick the starter over like you should.

If your battery is slowly draining down and your fan belts are all looking good, you might have a bad alternator.

The easiest way I've found to check the alternator is bad is to unhook the positive side of the battery while car is running if car dies its a good sign that the alt is bad.

well if your battery light is on that is one sign. or if your cars lights and stuff blink, but if you drive it daily and it does not die then your alternater is working
