I'm getting a electric guitar soon, but i'm wondering which one is a really great guitar/or brand/type of the guitar. Can some one tell me/give me good tips?

Thanks

i would say fender, gibson, jackson

those would be the ones if you really want a good quality guitar for an "ok" price

maybe get a kit...

pick, amp, bag/stand, guitar

some are less than some guitars alone

A standard Telecaster, or a standard Stratocaster...both made by Fender and selling for about $399 in Musicians Friend.

These are amazing guitars...with all American parts, and assembled down in Mexico. Much better than the cheaper low end Squires also made by Fender.

If you can afford it...buy an AMERICAN STANDARD. Right now, they're selling for about $950! I know that's a lot of money, but if you keep the guitar, it will only go up in price over the years. Anything else like Schecter, or Squire will be worth about as much as a door stop after a couple of decades...if it's even still playable?

I bought a 72 Fender Tele for $300 back in the late 70's, and recently sold it for $1500! You get what you pay for...but the $399 Fenders are a great way to go.

Play as many different guitars as you can...as crazy as this sounds, sometimes a guitar will "speak" to you. It will just feel right in your hands. Play it unplugged with your ear on part of the guitar and listen for resonance in the wood...some guitars sound better than others.

Look for loose joints, particularly where the neck meets the body...you should not be able to wedge a guitar pick between the neck and body...Stevie Ray Vaughn was adamant about having a guitar with a tight neck joint.

Blah blah blah...I'm rambling now...good luck to you.

It all depends on how much you're willing to spend. Is this going to be your first electric? Personally, I like Schecter and Ibanez. Compared to Fenders and Gibsons, they're MUUUUCH cheaper, and plays easier, too. Some may argue that Schecters and Ibanezes lack tone compared to a Gibson or other fancy brands, but from what I've heard, they're just as good.

My favorite Schecter is the C-1 Elite. It cost me $450 used, and the structure of the guitar is very similar to the les paul. Set in neck, two (splittable) humbuckers, two tone, two vol, 24 frets, Grover tuners, etc.... 1/3 of what a Gibson LP costs.
