I'm probably the only one who thinks that, but it seems a bit of an arrogent prayer to america. I think its part of the reason ppl think americans are up themselves.

Many object to the exploitation of children by leading them in a pledge that even adults have difficulty agreeing upon. They feel that having children recite the Pledge trivializes the serious commitment it requires, and the constant repetition insults the honor and wastes the time of those children who view their first recitation as binding. In particular, some parents insist that their children should wait until maturity before making a pledge of such magnitude.

So, yes, it is brainwashing, but whether it's harmful or not is a different question with a different answer.

A wise man once said to me that all of the places that were colonized by the British have arrogant people there now

I don't stand up for the pledge, yes in many senses it is better than most countries but for all the lies and deceit that this country has done and is doing at this momentI will not stand up. I'm glad to be here, but stand up, I will not

And no one is going to do anything about it as long as I don't burn the flag other people shouldn't give a damn and should get out of my face about it

perhaps you need to read or listen to ill. Brother Red Skeleton's explanation of the Pledge of Allegiance and listen to the reason and meaning behind the words.

I don't think it's brainwashing. Just tell your child that she/he doesn't need to do the pledge of allegiance, because not everyone is religous and the teachers won't be able to sue you--just a fact!

If you don't love this country, then why are you here? Personally, I love the United States and I am more than happy to pledge my allegiance to this nation. Yeah, we have lots of problems and there are lots of things that need to be fixed but it is still the greatest nation on earth!

I'll second that. However, the brainwashing doesn't always work. I had to say it in school when I was a kid, and now I never say it.

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

I was one of the 3 children who refused to say that crap when i was in school. Its all a crock of s.hit to me. There is no liberty and justice for ALL. Theres liberty and justice for ALL who can afford to pay an arm and a leg in bribery for it.

I understand where you're coming from on this statement, but i disagree. I view the pledge as a sign of respect for our country, rather than a prayer/oath to america

response to ashley d above me-

if you have a solid reason not to say the pledge, i can respect that. But i do not believe that everyone around you shares your beliefs, they would just rather sit on their *** instead of stand up like they do everyday. They are using their constitutional rights as an excuse for their laziness.
