there may be several yahoo groups on neuro-linguistic programming that you might take a look at. i've had people try to give me what youre calling subliminal messages, more in the form of repeating something several times over weeks until i cant be sure if i said it or who said it first. but i usually know when thats being done. i find this kind of manipulation dangerous. just take a look at the false memories implanted in some kids in town-wide supposed molestation at daycare places several years ago.
on other hand some hypnotic states to stop smoking or whatever have verying degress of success.
