I don't really think that there is much of a difference.

Maybe the quad-core by a small amount, but you should also take into account the price. You might be paying $200 extra for only a minimal increase in performance.

depending on the rig there is no noticable difference between those 2 processors for gaming

for standard overall, they are overkill for any mainstream applications.
