i totally agree with you, there is all the talk about kids becoming obese and how to educate them into having healthier lifstyles and then the shops are allowed to fill the shelves with easter egg bargains! they are soooo cheap to buy now as well. i let my children pick a small gift for themselves too. we should get together and form a picket line outside tesco!! lol!! BAN THE EASTER EGGS!!!!!

You are absolutely right. But Easter isnt even about gifts either. Easter is a religious holiday marking the death and resurection of our Savior JesusCrist. But Yet again greedy people were somehow able to turn it into a bunny hopping, chocolate eating, basket giving holiday where people go and throw their money at the store clerk so they can run off with their favorite basket before someone comes and takes it away.

It has become that way, unfortunately. It's pretty sad that a lot of kids do not even know the meaning of Easter other than the Easter Bunny and chocolate candy.

I think we all over indulge at any oportunity, Easter, Christmas, Birthdays. We forget the real meaning.
I always got a new outfit at Easter and didn't get loads of chocolate off my parents, chocolate came from other relatives.
Please teach your daughter the true meaning of Christmas & Easter.

Don't know about others but for easter my family stay at home.
We cook ham the night before, we boil the eggs and paint them. So for breakfast ham, horseradish, eggs(which we crack and whose egg don't crack is a winner), cheese. all yummy stuff. We spend the day together. Nice dinner(3 course) after that homemade cakes.
Plenty of fun and no chocolate eggs.
Early in the morning kids go to get their present from the nests that they made of grass the day before. And I don't mean lots of them and expensive.
They are looking forward to the day and believe that bunny brings the presents. It is all about happiness.

Easter like Christmas is fun' I love the chocolate myself
and of course we do encourage this
every year to our children and trying to get them to
eat healthy is a good idea
And this comes one time a year and I see no harm at all
to our children no
We did this as kids and it did me no harm at all
I have not put on any weight my time as a child back then
and my health is not the best but oh well

I don't think you are mean. Celebrate Easter for spiritual reasons absolutely, send cards if you must but don't be brainwashed by the media into thinking you are mean by not following the crowd buying products at higher than normal prices at particular times of the year like flowers (Valentines Day/Mothers Day), chocolates (Easter) and huge presents (Christmas). It is media/business manipulation at its worst. Don't let them get to you. Retain your independent mind to make your own decisions. Wishing you all the best from another (probably meaner) meanie! :)

It,s not compulsory for you to spend huge sums of money for Easter or Christmas. Buying your daughter a gift is a good idea, and at Christmas time why not spend it in Spain/Portugal for say 10 days. Cost less than two weeks at home for that period.

No,,, Easter is about the Resurrection of our savior Jesus Christ. How Americans celebrate Easter is all about commercialism and making money. Give anyone a reason that they could possibly make money from, and there will be people who find a way to exploit it!!!
