I stupidly cleaned my white laptop with Nail Polish remover - It worked great but left a white residue.

Try using the stuff you clean the dashboard of the car with. that might help Use it on my computer, TV's, anything plastic

are you sure it's residue and not some form of reaction the laptop has had to the acetone??
