Because my brother is gay and he is being told he can't marry because of who he chooses. The government should stay out of our bedrooms and our churches.

What reason does the government, or anyone else for that matter, have for not allowing it? What is marriage? A union, or commitment between two concenting adults who love eachother and wish to spend thier lives together. Who has any right to say whom I should and should not be able to marry. The government has no business, and the only excuse they use for these laws, is the bible. Correct me if I am wrong, but church and state are to be kept seperate. The bible should come nowhere near the governments argument for thier assinign belifes! I deserve the same basic human rights as any other person, my sexual orientation does NOT make me a second class citizen nor does it make me any less capable of feeling love or less worthy of marriage. And in reponse to and answer given earlier, if straight people are getting married just to procreate, then I am so thankful that I am gay cause you must lead a truely miserable existance! I will choose to marry for love, leagal or not. Although it would be nice if my partner could share my health benefits, make medical desicions if I am unable, take my child to the er if he gets hurt, become my childs guardian if I should die so that he won't have to become a ward of the state, fill out joint tax returns, the list goes on and on. All of these are just some of the reasons it should be "legal". But most of all, because I am a human being and as such, I deserve to be treated like one!

Jenny, have you never heard about marrying for LOVE? It seems not.
The Constitution said that we are all created equal. This should also include the STATE-given rights that come with marriage. To do otherwise is state-supported discrimination, pure and simple. That's why ignorant bigots who want to ban such marriages have to AMEND the Constitution.
So such marriages should be ALREADY legal, and are specifically in some states. All it will need is for the Supreme Court to hear a case challenging this discrimination for it to be the law of the land - the entire land.

Gay people have just as much right as straight people to get married and be miserable :).
Seriously...straight people who say they want to "preserve the sanctity of marriage" by not letting GLBT people get married tick me off like no other. If they REALLY wanted to preserve marriage, MAKE DIVORCE ILLEGAL!!! Then people would REALLY think twice before agreeing to spend their life with someone!!!
Same thing goes for gay people. I'm afraid that once gay marriage is legalized in the US, many gay people will rush out and get married without thinking, whether to make a political statement or just because they think they're in love w/ their partner at the time. I REALLY HOPE this doesn't happen, though. I for one plan on getting married someday...but only when I find my true soulmate.

I am for human rights and if two adults are in love then they deserve all the same legal and worldly rights that others get.
This is nothing to do with your opinions or desires or needs this is about the government not having so many rights and people having more rights.
The government has no right to tell anyone who they can be with who they can leave their income, social security to or anything like that. The government and other people are not god so take them off that pedestal!

My brother is gay and has been with the same partner for seven years and I don't think it's right that they can't legally be married. Most marriages don't last that long or are that happy. Because they can't marry they also can't do some things other married couples can. They can't have health insurance like other couples. I just don't think it's anybody else's business but theirs.

perhaps you do no longer likely comprehend as plenty approximately criminal arguments as you think of you do. in terms of how the US preferrred court docket has been explaining that's interpretation of the equivalent protection Clause of the 14th replace, there are a minimum of two distinctive tiers the courts use to scrutinize the excuses that government gives you in protection of its rules that "discriminate." first of all, rules that "discriminate" against gay human beings are no longer presumptively unacceptable. the burden isn't on the government to coach that the guidelines are "narrowly adapted to serve a compelling objective," that's the widely used that the courts practice to racially discriminatory rules. consequently, rather, the criminal widely used that would desire to be utilized is the "rational foundation attempt," wherein case the government purely has the burden to illustrate that the type at situation is rationally concerning to a valid governmental objective. If there is ANY rational justification for the regulation, no count number how plenty you're making think of that it fairly is tenuous, then the regulation ought to be upheld. My argument for any state regulation that bans gay marriage is the factor you stated in #3: right now couples can needless to say reproduce and gay couples do no longer. Any rational and independent guy or woman can see that heterosexual coupling can and frequently does bring about duplicate, yet gay coupling on no account does. You have been rapid to show out the exceptions to my regular assertion concerning to the frequency with which heterosexuals reproduce. Exceptions to the generalization on no account do count number whilst the *rational foundation attempt* is the criminal widely used it somewhat is utilized by employing courts.

There are the advantages of filing taxes, combining estates, and having a partner make medical decisions when one is incapacitated.
Overall, the government should stay out of the marriage business and leave that up to churches, temples, or mosques to decide.

I think a pretty big reason is that it is no one elses business. If two men or two women want to marry why not? Its not for someone else to decided, just because it might make them fell a little uncomfortable. Marraige should be a basic human right, whether you are gay, straight, bi, or trans.

I think that everyone should be able to get married. I live in NYC and my next door neighbor's have been in LOVE for 30 years. Recently they have been arguing because one of them wants to move to Canada (to get married) and the other one doesn't (he wants to get married but he doesn't want to move because of his job and he feels that the Government is trying to make America "Gay Free").
