I origninally went on the Mirena 9 years ago and stayed with it for 7 years. the reason I had it was due to very heavy periods I was aneamic despite a good diet. Within four months my iron levels had increased to normal limits without the use of iron tablets.
I had light bleeding for around six weks after insertion but then the periods reduced to once a month for a year then only a few times a year until I decided to have it removed to start a family.

I suffered no other side effects from the mirena
and thoroughly recommend it .

I had mine placed a little over a year ago and I love it. I've known 3 other people with it and they love it too. All four of us had decrease in menstrual flow or it actually stopped all together. Mine is just really light.

The only down side is I could feel it after it was placed for a few weeks until it "settled" in. It was just a mild cramping sensation but after that I don't feel it at all. The other is my husband says he can "feel" the string and it bothers him a little, but most men do not feel it. Other than those things, it's been really nice to have and I would get it again. Good luck.
