speedometer is bouncing and transmission is acting confused. HELP

hi there.
I have seen that problem on many , many ford vehicles.
The GEAR IN THE TRANSMISSION that drives the whole speedo system is bad. That is why you get the erratic operation. shine a flashlight into the transmission and you will see the worn or misaligned gear.
The local transmission shop here repairs those for about $100.00. So DO NOT LET ANYONE TELL YOU IT IS A BIG JOB! Some transmission shops try to charge big bucks for this gear replacement. It takes them less than 30 minutes and cost $20 in parts!

did you grease the speedometer cable, ? is the cable the right length, is the cable fully engaged with the gear on trans ?may be cable housing drag

look for a bad ground.
