Yes, and sorry for your loss...why would your daughter fall in the hole? Aren't you going to fill it with dog and dirt immediately? Since your daughter is young, couldn't a neighbor or relative pitch in or do it on the weekend?

I've buried canaries, budgies and cockatiels in our back garden here in the UK, but I'm not really sure on the laws.
Obviously you can't bury people (humans) in your garden without permission from the council and an official note being made for any subsequent purchasers that there is a dead body in the back garden, but I'm not sure on whether you need permission for a dog or any household pet. The local enviromental health department (I think) of your local council could probably advise on whether or not you need any form of permission and if there are any set rules and regulations. There probably are laws about this, but not usually enforced and bereaved pet owners do pretty much whatever they like.
Frankly I'd rather entrust a large animal such as a dog to a proper pet cemetary. Ask your local vet about what options are available.

Yes you can bury it, shouldn't worry about your daughter falling in the hole at the age of 14, if she does I'm sure she can climb out. Though a hole that size would take days to dig! (that's if she finishes it after the first blisters appear!)
If I was you I would worry more about a fox digging it up - sorry not nice I know so just make sure you get a doggy box to bury it in.
How about getting it cremated and doing something special with the ashes?

In the Uk[Scotland]. my back garden is like Pet Cemetery.
We have two cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, budgies all buried somewhere in the garden. So I don't see why you couldn't bury the dog.
just make sure its a deep enough hole for him.
Sorry to hear of your dog though

Yes of course you can. You are allowed to bury 'household' pets - and that includes horses - on your own property provided that it is nowhere near a natural watercourse. Farm animals need to be disposed off according to certain regulations which certainly do not apply to dogs.
Just make sure he is three feet or more deep and then nothing will interfere with him. Can you get a mini digger in your back garden? It would be so much easier and quicker and you could also lower him in gently.
It is very sad I know and some callous people on here do not realise how sad but I have lots of past experience of laying my animals to rest and I do sympathise.

yes you can, but with a dog of the size, I would most likely not, once he starts to decompose, sorry about that but sad fact of life and death, he could create some unsightly creatures. Best thing a person could do is have the pet cremated and put in a nice urn, and never have to worry again.
