my final exam is in just over a week and although i have some prep work, it hasnt given me any inspiration for a final piece. my project is wings and feathers and i would like my final piece to be a bit deeper then just paintings of birds or butterflies. Any suggestions or ideas would be much appreciated!

Fantastic, Pegasus, I personnel would draw a man/boy,girl on a stage with the wings out ( the picture would be have to be drawn so you are standing behind the man ) with the crowd in front looking shocked, women children etc, I would make the period perhaps 1930s - 1940s I would certainly look on the internet for ideas ( im sure you have already ! ) OR in a cirus tent with the person at the top of the BIG TOP and the crowd looking up in amazment! Man has always had a fantasty of flying! I would use a mixture of paint/water pencils. I hope this helps abit.

From a ART exam student myself back in 1995 and graded a B+ Goodluck!

maybe u could do something based on angels? how angels 'get' their wings?
or someone being looked after or protected by being taken 'under someones wing'?
feathers are waterproof so perhaps u could base your work on that idea?
feathers and wings help animals move, an idea based on transport and movement?
maybe u could get the anatomy of a wing from a bird, butterfly, house-fly, dragon-fly (extreme close-ups) and repeat the structures u see in your piece? there is a music video which replicates this idea by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs in their video 'Pin' they use butterfly wings, u could say thats where u got ur inspiration from, in the vid they impose their profiles onto the butterfly which just looks like the natural pattern but when u get close u realise its the side of someones face.
hope i given u some inspiration, good luck, i did my art gcse a few years back and found it tough! good luck again

I can imagine a girl being pulled away from her bed, clutching her pillow as the feathers are falling down while a gruesome gargoyle or something struggles to steal her away.

You can do something lighter though, such as a person or animal growing wings or playing in the clouds.

If you want to try something surreal you could do a fish with feathers or wings. Just make sure whatever you do is different because angels are kind of overdone.

How about a cat killing a bird/pigeon.

the only reason I suggest that is because I once had a cat who was a great hunter and did that exact thing to a pigeon and all you could see was a bundle of feathers and a bit of the wing left

how about a sculpture of a birds wing using balsa wook for lightness and tissue cut to represent the feathers. or going surreal and using an areoplane changing the front to a eagles face and the plane wings to be birds ones or different coloured plastics cutin to shapes that are simular to the butterfly and turning it into a stain glass window

Maybe think outside the box! do not use the term wings and feathers literally. Try painting with feathers, use them as brushes and maybe depicting wings (birds and planes) in an abstract form?

You could do something that associates them with heaven, spiritual things or perhaps a cat surrounded by wings and feathers....
