It sounds like the resolution settings on your desktop have suddenly changed because both your text and images have increased in size. This is probably due to the fact that you now have less pixels on your screen. For instance if you were running a resolution of 1024x769 pixels and now you are running 800x600 pixels.

If this is the case you can hopefully correct the problem by right clicking anywhere on your desktop (not on an icon, an empty space) and choosing "properties". This will bring up a window titled "Display Properties". Across the top of the window there are tabs starting with the name "Themes" which you should currently be on. Click on the tab titled "settings". Look for the section titled "Screen resolution" with a bar labeled "Less" and "More". Move the slider towards more. The setting that you will end up choosing will depend on your monitors size and your own preferences. You may need to change the resolution several times until you find the setting you like. Once you have changed the selection on the slider bar click the "Apply" button on the bottom right. If you like the new settings choose yes on the dialog that pops up within 15 seconds to commit the change. If not choose no and select a new setting on the slider bar.

If you cannot increase the "Screen resolution" any higher and your text and pictures are still huge this probably means you need to re-install the drivers for your graphics card. You will need to ask another question for that answer though. If you do make sure to specify at least the brand of your graphics card.

I hope this helps!

View -> Text Size -> Increase/Normal/Decrease
Ctrl++ (hold the control key and hit the plus key) makes the text larger.
Ctrl+- (hold the control key and hit the minus key) makes the text smaller.
Ctrl+0 (hold the control key and hit zero) makes the text normal size.
Ctrl+scroll mouse wheel
