Well, it's not the same thing... but years ago I changed my name (I hyphenated with my partner) and I love having a name that reflects who I am.

If you are living as a woman, the name change would make sense. If, however, you are not entirely living as a woman, then you should probably make that transition first. (Most doctors will not do the gender reassignment surgery unless you are already living as the new gender.) Remember you will have to have all your financial, tax, and business information completed in the new name, once you've changed it.

Go for it, I am changing my name as well, but I am keeping my same gender, I had some father issues while growing up and I have his name Terrance, so thats why I am changing it.

I think this purely a personal thing. I changed mine before I had my op. and felt happier with it being that way.
