on the anime series naruto there is this person named yondaime,I know he is the fourth but what does yondaime mean everyone in the leaf calls him that.

Yondaime 四代目 itself dosen't mean Fourth Hokage although in the series it means this as it's assumed after it's referred a few times that it's a referral to the kage 影

So yondaime by itself means "the fourth generation of.." or "the fourth ___"
In Japanese alot of assumptions so to speak are used in which the full information dosen't have to be spoken for the word to be understood. So, by saying yondaime, the listener would know the speaker is talking about the "fourth" of something which of course in Naruto's case would be the hokage 火影

hahah yondaime is the fourth hokage. its like this
1st hokage-shodai-literally meaning founding or first
2nd hokage-nidaime-second because in japanese ni=2
3rd hokage-sandaime- third because in japanese san=3
4th hokage-yondaime-fourth because in japanese yon=4
5th hokage-godaime-fifth because in japanese go=5
english=1,2,3,4,5.
