OK, I know I have asked this before but I am trying to get a ton of opinions! How do I convince my parents to let me get a rabbit? I have done reseach (6th months of it) so don't say that. I offered to help pay for part of it. I am responsible and they know it. And I don't break their rules. But they are really against having more than one pet at a time (I have a dog, 8 yrs old, Cocker spaniel) Any advice on how to convince them a dog and rabbit can get along? (My dog was trained to allow rabbits on his property also, to prevent rabbit casualties.) My dad always told me that if I got a rabbit he would eat it. I really want to adopt (I found one that I like). And I have three options on when to ask...

1. Next time I see them.
2. At the end of the week, when they are relaxed.
3. Leave a letter on their bed before I go on vacation (without them) and give them time to think.

Please give thorough answers that will really help me.

THANKS SO MUCH!!

I'd show them how serious you are.
1. Buy a lot of rabbit books, magazines, and copy internet articles. You can tell your parents interesting rabbit facts.
2. You can make up a list of what you will need to properly care for a rabbit and the related costs of housing, proper diet, and veterinary care and outline how you will make the money to pay for it.
3. Start saving money now, so you parents can see you really are serious.
4. Outline care for the rabbit, like play time, cage cleaning, and other daily activities so your parents know it will not just sit an a cage.
5. Make a "contract" that says if you default on care the rabbit will be surrendered to a rescue or shelter.

The more your parents see you are serious and this isn't a passing fancy the more likely they may be to allow you to get a bunny.

Bunnies are a LOT of work to properly house, feed, and provide medical care, so by doing the above you'll know exactly what you're getting into.

This site has the best rabbit info around, and I always recommend it to potential and new rabbit owners.

Good luck.

You need to proove to them that you will take 100% care of this rabbit and that you have done all your research on this pet. Start by taking more of an active role in the care for your dog and show them you can care for pets without their help. Bring them to visit the one you want to adopt and then maybe once they see that face they wont say no.

My ex wouldn't let our daughter get a dog until she started thinking of how she would feel if anything ever happened to our daughter, and then feeling guilty that she wouldn't let her get a dog. You sound like a really smart girl. Maybe you could use that somehow? Sounds like number 3 would work best with this idea.

well, when i was younger i begged my parents everyday to get a horse. i would research, hang pictures of the horse that were for sale on my walls, i did everything. my parents are animal lovers, but they know that i am probably the biggest animal lover. so they decided to get a horse after a year went by. and i still have my horse. just give them time. we already had 10 pets before i got my horse so that was also a problem. just respect your parents decision and everything works out for a reason.

In the morning while they are still sleepy
(and you are more awake than they are)
Have to your best reasons and most responsible sounding tone
Once you make your sales pitch and you see them thinking about it, stop talking

Or when they are relaxing is also good.

Both of these times, they will be reluctant to want to, get into a big discussion about it.

Well, not that I recommend this, but when i was little, my older sister really wanted a kitten and our dad wouldn't let her have one. So finally she just took a kitten home one day, and he couldn't say no to that face.

I think if you just keep asking them over and over, they'll eventually say yes.

sounds like your parents just cant be conviced. but that doesnt mean you give up you could buy all the stuff while there gone and say now we have to get one. or just keep anoying them. show how perfectly planned out you have it.

i'd go with the weekend, face to face is better and definitely better when they are relaxed. Your dad is lying btw, either that or he is truly evil, which I doubt.
