It just hailed here really bad, and it reeked like dirty pond water.

What's up with that?

No waterspout involved...it was pouring rain - no smell; then the hail started falling -it smelled; then it stopped hailing but it continued to rain - smell gone...

The smell that most people associate with fish is actually the smell of the water, mostly bacteria and other organisms in the water, the fish live in. A thunderstorm can often pick up water from a lake or stream by way of a water spout and the water it eventually drops will smell like "fish" or the things it picked up from the lake or stream.

There may have been a water spout involved with the storm system that passed through. The water spout could pick up water from a lake and carry it along with the storm system until it fell out with the hail.
