I do and I love them. How much it'll cost you depends on what diaper styles you choose. I'm a disposible snob. You can't pay me to use them! I can smell the chemicals in them. Yuck. I find cloth to be very easy to use and easy to care for. I also like doing laundry.

Used cloth diapers for all three children, less consistently with the third (just easier to deal with cloth when you're home more often!) You can buy some excellent cloth diapers that are tailored to fit the baby, have velcro closures, and are thick and absorbent. As well, if you're lucky enough to be able to find them, there are inserts that you can put in cloth diapers (yes, they're paper, but they're a fraction of the size of a disposable diaper!) some of which are biodegradable (no plastics) that increase the absorbency. Kind of like sanitary napkins for babies!

I bought a pack of 18 shaped cloth nappies (I'm British) with Velcro fasteners and separate waterproof pants and liners. They lasted for my second child too, although I had to replace the Velcro with snap fasteners pretty early on.

You have to realise that loads more research and development has gone into disposable nappies, so they're inevitably much, much easier to use. The cloth ones, even though they're shaped, hold less and leak more easily, and washing them and remembering to buy the liners etc. is a bother.

However, there are advantages:
The biggest one is that it's environmentally more friendly; disposable nappies take ages to decompose. Secondly, it costs less, especially if you're going to have more than one child. Thirdly, a baby who's in cloth nappies sometimes potty trains earlier because they're more aware of being wet etc.

Cloth nappies, the kind I had anyway, dry more quickly than you would think when hung up indoors. (Mine were called SAMIAM and were made in Canada.)

Finally, if you do opt for disposables and want to minimise the environmental impact, buy good quality nappies and just don't keep changing them all the time. Unless your baby is seriously dehydrated or has super-sensitive skin, wetness doesn't cause nappy rash; poo does. So change it immediately when it's dirty, but don't feel you have to change it too often if it's just wet. These disposable nappies do hi-tech things like "locking moisture away" and all that. I've seen a mother change her kid's nappy twice within the hour. Just not necessary.

I used cloth diapers for the first year and a half or so and then, it gets gross as they get older, so I switched to disposable then. I kept a covered trash can filled with Biz water, so I could throw them in there to soak a few days after I rinced them and then emptyed the whole thing into the washer, spinned it out and then washed. I never had stains in my diapers that way, and it didn't smell!

Yes cloth diapers are nice to have if you have a washer and dryer or if the baby is allergic to disposables like my daughter was. I think it is cheaper to use cloth diapers. Just do whatever is easier for you.

My mom did with her kids, and it was extremely time consuming since you constantly have to wash out diapers. Not to mention the stench! You can pay for a cloth diaper service, where they will take them and wash them for you, and deliver clean ones but I'm pretty sure it's more expensive than using disposables. My husband doesn't make tons of money, but we budget wisely so that we can afford disposables, and that way I can spend more time with my baby. Good luck!

sure do. Landfills are getting overwhelmed and as long as you are taking care of baby when wet, regular diapers aren't really any better than cloth. And it's sure is cheaper.
