what are the easiest vegetables/fruit to grow?

I havent grown any vegetables/fruit before. What are the easiest ones to grow?? I only have a small garden so anything I can grow in pots would be good too. Are there any I can plant now?

You can grow courgettes in pots. They are easy to sow, easy to grow as they are fairly slug resistant and just seem to get on with it and if you keep picking the veg, they'll keep cropping for ages. 1-2 plants will give you more courgetttes than you'll ever need! Start them off now on the windowsill in a small pot and pot out when they have 2 to 3 proper leaves. Squash plants are similar but not so slug resistant.

Other things that are fairly easy to grow in containers are chili peppers, bell peppers (although I was always disappointed with the result), beans, peas and cherry tomatoes all of which can be sown now as above.

You can also grow fruit such as strawberries and blueberries in a pot. But blueberries need ericaceous compost not the normal stuff, just ask for it at your local garden centre/DIY store. You can also get dwarf appletrees that are suitable for growing in pots.

From my experience the easiest vegetables to grow are tomatoes, peppers, and summer squash. If you grow squash (or any kind of vining veggie) you can save space in your garden by training it to grow on a trellis.
Depending on where you live there are probably some things you can plant now. Find out what the last expected frost date is for your area. For example, where I live the last expected frost date is around May 1. So, generally I would not plant anything outside until after that date. However some veggies are frost tolerant. For example, I could plant peas outside now even though it is very cold.
Strawberries are good plants for containers, as are cherry tomatoes, just make sure to keep them VERY well watered.
It would help to get a good gardening book from your library to learn some of the basics!

Easiest
Potatoes in a barrel or bucket.
Get a large bucket or barrel and cover bottom with compost six inches deep. Lay 6 seed potatoes on bottom and cover with six inches of compost. When shoots brake through surface cover with another six inches of compost. Repeat untill you reach top of barrel. Allow to grow out, once foilage has wilted and been lyeing on top of bucket for a week or two thats them ready. And hay presto you have a barrel full of potatoes.

Root vegetables Carrots, Parsnips - Just seed in a large pot as per guidlines on back of packet. With winter as mild as this one you can start now. I have.

Tomatoes out of buckets or grow bags a doddle but you will need a wee green house unless your right down south.

Cabbage and Cauliflowers etc i have decided to do companion planting this year and are distributing these amongst the flower beds.

I have peach tree this year in pot dont know how that will go but it says i will have good fruit after the flowering and its doing that already!

Apple, Pear and Plumb trees these are easy to do from pots but they need to be big. Better in the ground on south most facing walls or fence.

Peas and Tomatoes anything that grows upwards and you can grow in pots cause root vegetables tend to attract pests.

Tomato's are the easiest by far - you plant them and water and they just appear! Pumpkins are really simple too, onions just get planted and grow so there are plenty to choose from! Good luck!

Try growing your own red peppers in pots, very easy and delicious. I have peppers and chili on my windowsill. Ask your local garden centre for plants that are most likely to succeed in your garden!

I would suggest peas, carrots, potatoes, onions, and tomatoes- a small plant can even be grown inside on a windowsill. Potatoes and onions can be planted now. Well, not right now, wait until the morning.

All the fruit are easy to grow as long as they are pruned at the correct time.
Nothing should stop you from growing veg in pots.

If perhaps it's a fruit it includes seeds, otherwise it's a vegetable. And vegetables are usually grown in the ground while fruits are grown in trees.
