Without more details it's hard say why it's acting that way.

But if you want a quick fix to simply view and print, you can download MS Word Viewer

Click on the link below to go to the appropriate page.

Possible reasons for the program prompting you for the CD is if you have Windows update set up to download and install automatically, it might have installed some updates that required the CD. Depending on the update, or feature Word is trying to access, you can simply cancel the prompt for the CD. The update will not install or some features/options aren't available but you can still use word.

The browse feature you're talking about is if you have the installation files somewhere on your computer, which most people don't. So I wouldn't mess with that.

My advice, get a MS Office Pro 2003 CD and put it in when it prompts you.

3 Options for you:
1.) Reboot-
See if restarting your computer will help.
2.) Uninstall and then reinstall your Microsoft Word program.
To uninstall your software you need to go to Control Panel on your Start Menu and click on "Add or Remove Programs". Find Microsoft Office and click on "Microsoft Office"<--which is where Microsoft Word is located at.
Next, re install it back. So pop in the CD and re install it. Oh and just a heads up, at a later date when you have more time you might wanna put your installation for your programs from your CDs to your computer. Just make a folder that says "My Software" or something and make a folder inside of that. Example:
>Make a folder that says "My Software"
>Click on that and add a folder inside "My Software" that is the name of your program. (Like "Microsoft Office" or something like that)
>Pop in your CD of the program or go to the site you're downloading the program from. Instead of clicking "Open" like you usually would, click on "Save" and save the program in the folder you made on your computer.
(Hope those directions made sense!)
This way you can easily re install programs and if the CD wears out you haven't completely lost the installation thing and you can make a new CD for the worn out CD.
3.) If this doesn't work call tech support or go to your email. Send the Word file to yourself in an attachment to download and print a friend's house or at the library.

Best of luck!!

Maybe you had a trial on your computer and time ran out just a minite ago. If's that the case, you'll have to buy a new disc.
And for the school work, if Microsoft doesn't work, you can use Notebook. (It's under start button/all programs/acessiores)
