Here is a situation: It's understood that one cannot marry a full/half sibling in USA. But what happens when either one is adopted by another family? They are in fact half siblings by blood, but legally, they are not, would that make it legal for them to get married than? It is also understood that one of the major reasons why you cannot marry such close blood relative is because of birth defects in case they would have a child, but what if one, or even both were unable to have kids? So now, they're legally not related, and there's not a possibility of a birth defect on a future child. Would the marriage still be illegal only because they are blood related?
PS) This is not an existing situation (not that I personally know of at least) I'm only doing a research on certain controversies, so please only serious answers. Thank you for the responses.

** I'm getting a lot of answers mentioning the birth defect factor, but as I mentioned above, what if one of even both parties were physically unable to have kids, than what would than make it illegal? (I understand that most likely it'd still be illegal, but my question is, than why would it?)

Why tear up a family by doing this. When you think you are only efffecting yourself, it is not true. What you do in life effects lots of people. There are too many other people in the world to get in this situation.

It depends.
If they are physically related, meaning their parents are the same, or at least one of the parents is the same, then they are not allowed to marry. Period. They share the same blood, and there is a potential of defective babies.
Because the law states that, I don’t think they can marry even if they are not physically able to have babies. The law is the law. The only way is to have no record on file (the government) about being related. At least one of them would have to have a different legal parent from day one, and have unknown real parents/ or the wrong ones so there is no relation.
Now, if they are siblings because the parents married, but still, they is not physical relation (do not share the same blood), then some things must be done. To start with, you have to see the law in the state you are, but more likely one of them will have to change the status so there is no legal relation. I think the only thing possible to do is to divorce the parents, so they are legally not attached anymore. Otherwise, the parents would have to divorce, or in any case, marry after the siblings get marry.
For this last option, you are better investigating the law as I might be wrong and there might be ways to marry if is proven that there is no blood relation.
PS. If you are looking into law controversies, then you don’t have to look too far. As of today, more than half the legal system is going into a spiral of retarded controversies due to the fact they keep on expanding the law to accommodate all this people that have legal suits, or keep on adding ridiculous copy righted material or patents, etc, etc. Compare the law today with 40 or 50 years ago, and you’ll see what I am talking about.

I think that the legalities would apply whether there was sterilization etc. I knew of a case personally where the couple had been adopted to other families then met and married. The 1 st child was severly retarded and that was when the blood tie was associated. The marriage was annulled however they lived together as man and ife untill the male's death. In our culture and sociaty this is very unacceptable. They suffered emotionally as well as socialy for the choices that they made.

Not being "legally" siblings is not about a name change so the adoption situation changes nothing. Being siblings is strictly about genetics. Once siblings, half siblings etc - always siblings, half siblings. There ARE siblings in the US who have married. Not being able to precreate *might* make things acceptable legally. It might be different in different states. It's not likely anyone would even know or care about it. People get married avery day and who is there to stop them?

I believe the blood relation still counts, because that relation still exists even if the legal relation is nullified.
Why are you asking for individual opinion on this? why not examine the marriage laws for several states, and compare the exact wording to see where the potential loopholes and controversies lie?

Sorry, you are somewhat incorrect. The reason we don't marry siblings/half siblings is because of shared blood types. If they got married and tried to have children, the children could develop certain birth defects.

Because of the legalities of adoption, It would be a novel to share with society, however this is a moral issue, and each person involved has a obligation to one another to determine
the truth as they can handle it for their happiness.

They are still siblings adoption would not have changed their genetics. The law would not change the fact that they are bioloigically linked. Therefore they cannot marry.

You are related that is all there is to it! She is your sister and you are her brother regardless if one of you had been adopted out. You really should find someone you are not related to. Not sure if it is legal or not. I just think it is nasty to even consider it!

I think that's just not morally correct, even if it was legal!! i mean it doesn't even sound right...."hey i married my brother"!!!" Ewww, that's just gross and creepy. But then, Idk, i come from a culture where it's okay to marry your cousin and i don't really understand that concept either. It's weird!!!
