)buy the seed according to where it is going. Shade, sunny, mixed.
)work the surface, to be planted, lightly with a garden rake to loosen the soil
)broadcast the seed with a seed spreader. If the area is not huge, you can buy a cheap hand spreader.
)YOU MUST KEEP THE AREA WET! Sprinkle it daily and more often if it is hot and dry.(the best time to plant grass is in September)
)if you are going to have trouble keeping the area wet....sprinkle loose straw over top of the seed. It will help keep the moisture in.

Piece of cake. Really! Loosen your soil an inch or two. Spread the seed. I say better too thick than too thin. Get a truck load of garden dirt. Cover the seed under one half to three quarters of an inch of dirt. Water with a hand held sprinkler twice a day. A hand held sprinkler is better because you don't push the dirt around so much and it won't create heavy and bare patches. The real secret is to plant when the nights are around 50 degrees. Grass seed likes cool weather. You can plant in the spring and the fall when the weather is right. Last, watch grass grow and mow. See! Piece of cake.
