It is most likely the computer increasing the fan speeds because it is getting hot. The other items in a computer that make a lot of noise are CD/DVD drives. If the computer makes a lot of noise as soon as you are playing a CD/DVD, you then know it is probably that making the noise.

its for cooling your "puter " so it runs up to speed!!

probably your dvd/cd rom drive, they speed up and down depending on usage... and sounds like a 'whirring', at least on my box..
