There's all sorts of products in the market that works as been suggested. However, there are also natural remedies if you care to consider them.

Strengthen brittle nails by eating a square of table jelly daily.
Massage lanolin into the base of each nail at bedtime.
Soak in a solution of 1 part cider vinegar to 8 parts water for 10 minutes twice weekly.

After being a life-long nail biter, in December last year I was finally able to break the habit (thanks to a diamond ring, who knew, right?) Anyways, the best thing I think she could do, which has worked for me thus far (no breakage yet) is to file down her nails at least once a week. (I know it's hard to do once you've grown some length, but it's like getting a haircut every 4-6 weeks, you do it because it prevents breakage and keeps it healthy and the same goes for nails) Also, if she takes a thin nail file and uses it where the nail file goes under her nails to file down the sides a little bit (almost to make the nails slightly round), she most likely will not break a nail. The reason I say that is because one day I noticed a little crack where the white part starts and I filed it down until it was gone. This is helpful because the smallest crack can ruin the whole nail, and then she'd probably want to cut all of them back. So that has helped me a lot. There are also a lot of products in the nail care section that are meant for those things. The hardener is a good choice. Tell her congratulations! I've tried to stop biting my whole life but thankfully a ring finally did it for me. . lol

Congratulations to your wife for this feat! I don't have too much of a problem with weak nails, but I have friends who do and they are constantly frustrated. Eating Jello will help strengthen nails. I'm sure she already washes dishes, cleans, gardens, etc. with gloves on. If not, she should. There are some lotions that are good for your nails as well as your hands. She could try those overnight - put a heavier than normal layer on, then slip on cotton gloves to hold in the moisture and oils. It will not only make her skin soft, it should help her nails too.

Personally, when I use nail polish it weakens my nails. I used to wear it a lot, but my nails started to bubble and peel in the middle of the nail bed. It took what seemed like forever to get them healed. I only wear polish for a couple of days at a time now, usually only for special occasions.

If she keeps putting the hardener on them then it will help if it is not long since she has grown them they can grow quiet soft or brittle and break. You can also get a vitamin from Holland and Barrett, skin hair and nails. I take it more for my hair as I dye it and take lots of tablets. She has done great to stop I bit mine all my life only i can't now due to a jaw problem only sometimes wish i could have a nibble, oh well.

Tell her to put gel nails on. They are not as abrasive as acrylics, as a matter of fact all the women in Europe use gel nails. They strengthen the support of the nails. The real nails grow underneath, but in the meantime your nail is able to be sturdy and it is impossible to break. Gel is clear, it's very practical and she will be very happy with them. I am a nail technician and people always ask me about this same particular situation, and my answer will always be GEL nails. Acrylic is the worst possible thing that anyone can do to their nails.
I hope this helps you and your wife.

I used to use nail hardener, but now I buff them- I got a ruby and Millie nail buffer from Boots for £5- it makes your nails shiny and increases the blood flow- I do this around 3 times a week and use cuticle cream/ oil on my nails every day- they are much stronger than they ever were when I used nail hardner, I would truly reccommend it!

well some ppl just have weak nails!
make sure she has lots of calcium, and vitamins, if her nails usually break alot she might be short on sumthin !!
lemon juice is real good for the nails, just keep ur nail in lemon juice for 5-10 mins everyday, it really makes then stronger, and of course the nail hardener, but if she puts polish then she needs to remove it regular n let the nails breathe !

my nails are long most of the time, what i do is periodically shorten them so that they stay healthy, also stop having polish and stuff on them all the time. i usually soak my nails in warm soapy water(like doing the dishes by hand)and push my cuticles back with an orange stick(never use metal) then moisturize the base and sides of the nail with a good moisturizer. keeping the skin around nails moist helps, try drinking unflavored gelatin in orange juice for strength.

ok here is my tip and 1 that literally saved me from losing my finger lol! Go to nail salon and get silk wraps. They are not near as damaging to nails as the others and are very very strong! If a silk wrap on my nails can keep a horse from being able to bite my finger off they shoud be strong enough for anything! oh and btw I have not been petting any horses since lol! hugs and good luck!

nails are made up of protein actually so she should eat plenty of protein and of course lots of vitamins as this will help her general health which in turn helps hair, skin and nails.
and i would also suggest using a nail strengthener like sally hansens to prevent flaking or chipping.
and wear rubber gloves when doing housework as submerging hands in water a lot caused nails to weaken!
good luck!
