no name, volcanic eruptions have occured throughout earths history and they are recorded in the rock record, so you could go back 2.2 billion years if you want
writen history, its probably Taupa in indonesia, 3000yrs ago

Vesuvius was recorded by Pliny the Younger c. 79AD

Mr Pliny jnr. recorded it at the time and that is the oldest recorded eruption

There have been older eruptions which have been recorded through the archaeological record since then :-

Slightly obscure but Theogny may describe the effects of the Thera Eruption at the end of the Minoan period in the Bronze Age.
