I am interested in purchasing clothing/electronics off Amazon etc. Besides the standard shipping costs that are already charged with your order, would Canadian customs charge extra on the package? Thanks.

You have to pay GST, Import Duties, and sometimes a handling charge.

A lot of it depends on what you buy, the value of the purchase, and the where the item was made (items made in the US may not have duties due to Free Trade).

I've shipped a few things from the US to Canada and never had to pay anything extra for it. Probably the best place to ask would be a post office, fedex, however it's going to be shipped. See what they have to say.

You would be charged for duties and taxes on the shipment. This is dependent on the price you pay for the product.

I had a Canadian Girlfriend once, told me that mailing anything there is fine....getting something back is expensive to them. She could have lied though.

There may be import taxes or GST involved. Aside from that, there should be no problems.
