Did you have your labor induced? With petosin? I'm a week over my due date, and am set for an induction in two days if I'm not in labor by then. I'm already at 3cm and the docs say my body is ready. How long was your labor? And do they give you anything for pain up front, or do they make you wait it out?

Hi. Congrats !! Childbirth is the MOST wonderful experience. Sure, there is pain, but the end result makes it all worthwhile. I was induced with petosin, and my labor lasted 13 hours. I was given something for pain ( can't remember what, it was 10 years ago), and I was given an epidural. You can pretty much have the pain meds when you want...they'll tell you if its too soon to have them. Just don't be afraid to speak up and let them know if you are in pain. Here's to an easy labor and a beautiful baby !! Best wishes !

With my first I was induced at 42 weeks, I was only dialated to a 1 and I was given pitocin. I was in labor for 24 hours. The pitocin was started around 11 PM, my water was broken in the afternoon the next day, I got an epideral around 5 PM, and I gave birth after pushing like 3 times at 11:30 PM. I chose to wait to get pain relief because I wanted to go natural. I wouldn't get the epideral right away, I would wait because having it sooner could increase your chances of a c-section. The pain usually just starts as a mild cramp and then grows from there, I would say it only starts hurting once you a past a 5 or so dialation, but that is my personal experience. I have been induced 3 times, the last two times were done with prostaglandins and I was in labor for 6 hours and 11 hours.

With my first baby, I was induced at around 37 1/2 wks (she was ready!) and yes it was with pitocin. My labor was 5 hours long, and they gave me my epidural as soon as I got hooked up to my pitocin, which was great. If you're already at 3 cm, and that far along, you are a perfect candidate (unless you go before then). As far as when you'll get your epidural, it depends on the hospital. Some may make you wait a little while. Just ask when you get there. Good luck, your baby will be here in no time!

My third pregnancy was induced with pitocin. They give it to you gradually, increase the amount over 1/2 hour periods until you are in full on labor. They will give pain meds right away at your request. I choose to have all my babies natural and the induced one was the hardest. The pitocin makes your contractions much harder. Hopefully you will go into labor before the induction. Good luck!

I was 3 cm dilated and 40+3 weeks when I was induced...

My labour lasted 28 hours after the induction!! I didn't have anything for the pain, I didn't want it, but the hospital told me they didn't have the funds anyway, and they told me that if I had wanted an epidural I should have booked it a month in advance (I wasn't told at the time)... But I live in Spain, so I wouldn't worry wherever you are!

Good luck, I hope it all goes OK!

I had induced labor for my third child - because I was 36. Bear in mind this was my third - in theory they "move" faster than a first birth.
I received my first bag of Petocin about 9:30 am - I had NO contractions for almost three hours. Small contractions shortly after noon - BIG jump to hard contractions close together at 12:30 - healthy baby boy arrived at 12:50.
I chose to only have demarol for pain - no epidural.
Good luck!

I was induced at 40 weeks and my labor lasted 45 hours. I was able to get pain meds after 12 hours or so.

Good luck!

This was exactly my situation (except I wasn't yet a week over, but I was over). My induction with pitocin lasted about 12 hours. Yes, they will definitely give you pain meds, if you want them. You can go in and ask for an epidural right away, and they will most likely give you one within the hour (unless they lose your lab work, like they did mine...until a nurse that knew what she was doing came in, I was in agony, because if you are ready, pitocin will make it go very fast! So start asking for the epidural as soon as you get there!)

When I was induced I had to go in at 5am and she was born at 1PM with petosin. It was the shortest labor out of all 3 of my children. They made me wait on the pain killers, now every doctor is different so they could get the full contractions.
Good Luck! You'll be fine!

Hi. When my water broke with my son...I had not dropped yet...I was 2 1/2 weeks early. So, my water broke at 7:55am got to the hospital @ 8:30am had an ultrasound to see the position at that time of the baby (if in breech position c-section was to follow) Than god he was in position but just hadn't dropped. I was hooked up to induce me....by 9:30pm I was only 6 cm and by the time the clock stroke 11:30 I was ready to push that little bundle of joy out and gave birth at 12:50am....17 hours later.

Well, I think it all depends but mind took 17 hours.
