Check the resolution of your desktop. Make sure it's maxed out.
Some laptops will 'shrink' the image if you try and make the screen display 640x480 resolution (or anything smaller than the maximum resolution capable on the display)
If this fixed your problem you can go into the Laptop bios and see if there is a way for the laptop not to shrink the image when changing resolution. Not all laptops will let you configure this in the bios, tho.

I've had this happen to me before. It's your screen resolution. You can fix this by clicking on your "Start Menu". Click on your "Control Panel". Next click "Appearance and Themes". In your pick a task options click "Change The Screen Resolution" In the window there should be a grey box with two boxes in side of it, one containing the # 1 and the other with the # 2. Make sure that Box # 1 is selected. Under that there is a slider marked "Screen Resolution" slide it to the left to make your screen bigger and to the right to make it smaller. After selecting "OK" you might be prompted to restart the computer. Restart the computer. This should work. It worked for me. I hope this helps you out, and good luck.

One of two things: you changed the resolution by accident:
Click on Start, Settings and choose Control Panel, Click on Appearance and Themes and choose Change the Screen Resolution ("more" makes it appear smaller, "less makes it appear bigger).
Or you've hit a magnification button (my laptop has one in the bottom right hand corner of my screen). You can do a search under the start button to see if your laptop has this feature.

Try right clicking on a blank area of your screen & go to Properties/Settings & move the resolution bar to LESS. It should help.
