The most liberal country in the west won't recognize gay marriages.

What chance does anyone think that gay marriages will work here?

Froz - We are all treated equally in this country with regard to marriage. We both are able to marry under the law, and we both have the same restrictions as well. There is no law preventing you from being married.

France is not the most liberal country in the west. It is Roman Catholic with Catholic based values (but not to extremes).

Actually, although there was that case where a gay marriage was rejected, gay couples can get something similar to a civil partnership. It's called a PACS which is a civil solidarity pact, and gives protection in house sharing and legal issues. However, it can also be used by brothers and sisters, or friends who are living together for a long time and want to have certain rights. Consider 2 spinster sisters, living together all their lives - it gives them rights too.

LOL, too funny. France is hardly the most liberal country in world.....Jesus!!

As for gay marriage, consider that one of the more conservative countries in the world just legalized it....South Africa, hardly a bastion of Liberalism.

As for the US, who cares anymore, it lost it's right to hold itself high awhile back. Maybe someday, when a real Conservative is in the white house and not some Evangelical Mind Zombie, things will change.

France as the most liberal country........pinky, some days you just kill me........BTW I'll say hi to the wife for ya.

Edit: somebody might want to tell Ranx that homosexual marriage already exists.....in 7 countries no less and soon the entire EU.

What makes me think that?

Our Constitution says that all are created equal. That's why ignorant bigots who are against equal rights would have to AMEND the Constitution to support their hatreds.
It is not the same as being "able to marry now" to a woman who is obviously not of my choosing. I would not marry a woman. To say I have the right to marry now, as long as I marry a woman, is ludicrous.

We have separation of church and state. Religion should have no say in which citizens get STATE-given rights such as marriage.

There are currently tens of thousands of long-term, stable LGBT relationships at present.

Any other questions?

The article does state that France highest court annulled the marriage and the prosecutor stated that it was up to the French Parliament to change the law.

And it was an involuntary annullment in that it was the men did not seek the annullment.

And same sex marriages in the US has just as much chance of working and failing as hetero marriages.

France isn't the most liberal country. That moniker would go to Sweden or The Netherlands.

Furthermore, this ruling will soon be overruled by the EU judicial system, as it's in clear violation of EU non-discrimination directives.

The socialist own France, so they could care less about gay marriage. However, the US is a work in progress. The marxist think gay marriage is a good step to undermining the Christian foundation of the country. It has nothing to do with gay rights and everything to do with political ideology and strategy.
