I'm 8 weeks pregnant. Today i had my first ultrasound and now I have little red dots all over my stomach where they put the ultrasound gel and it itches. What could this be?

The whole point of the gel is because the machine sends out sound waves at a high frequency. These sound waves are too high to be heard by human ears. A piece of equipment called a transducer sends out these sound waves into your skin. The sound waves generate heat as they go deep into your muscles and soft tissue. The red spots could mean that your skin was really sensitive to the sound waves or the gel that they used!!... If they start to hurt call your Dr.. if not the spots should go away in about a day!! I had a knee injury, and for treatment they used the gel and ultrasound machine to help heal my tissue, and i got red spots from it!!

you sound like u are allergic to the gel that they used. wash with soap and put an ointment on there. Also remember to tell the doctor the next time u go for ur ultrasound that u think u are allergic to the gel and they might have to use something else or nothing at all. Your body changes all the time during ur pregnancy and u can become allergic to alot of things or not like certain things at all. You will notice alot of changes, all well worth it!!!

Good Luck with the Baby and Congrats!!

When you're pregnant, your skin (especially on your belly) can be extra sensative. You probably had a little reaction to the gel they used. Wash it off and then put on some lotion, and it will probably feel fine. I get little red dots across my belly after my shower for some reason, but they always disappear after a little while. Nothing to be alarmed about. Good luck, and congrats on the baby!

Sounds like an irritation to the gel. Wash with a mild soap. You should be just fine.

Your skin might just be sensitive. I wouldn't worry.
