aloof is sort of distanced and unaproachable
nonchalant is more cool and relaxed

Aloof definition: 1.physically distant or apart from somebody or something
2.uninvolved or unwilling to become involved with other people or events, often out of a sense of lofty superiority to them

Nonchalant definition: indifferent; calm and unconcerned about things

They're similar, but with slightly different connotations. Nonchalant is laid-back and unassuming/casual, while aloof tends to be standoffish, cold and uppity.

"Nonchalant" can be momentary. "Aloof" implies nonchalance as a continuing or persistent personality trait, even to the point of distance or iciness, disregard of others.

I'm not sure.........but there are a LOT of different words that mean the same thing.......so i don't know?...
