I have a friend who tried to open an account with paypal, but she was unable to do so because she has been suspended from them in the past for not paying. So she opened an account using her 10 year old daughter's name and information, I told her this was identity theft and she should close the account. She think it is ok because they will never find out, I think this is very wrong and iresponsible. Why ruin a poor child's credit.

So my question is.
Would this be considered theft and could she be setitng her self up to do some time in prison if caught?

She is not a very good friend by any means, but I do like her. I am still wanting to turn her in, because the child is innocent. Who would I call to report her?

It's fraud plain and simple. I doubt she'll have much luck explaining to a credit card company or the police how she put a 10 yr olds name up as her own if someone ELSE steals it.

If you were of a mind, you could start with customer service at PayPal

That is identity theft. Ther was a recent case where a mother took both her children's identity and opened accounts. She is in prison now. She should be very careful.

Yes. "Your friend" could be thrown in jail for fraud. Its a felony, and sentencing can be up to 25 years in prison. Companies like Equifax and Trans Union are all over this, and it may take some time to gte to her, but they will. Guaranteed.

IT'S ONLY WRONG IF YOU GET CAUGHT-check out all the previous politicians actions plus the current ones--if they lead by example-no wonder we're so screwed
