Obviously Wal-Mart is more popular than Target, it sells way more... but in my world no one likes Wal-Mart, so just wondering if there's anyone out that that likes Wal-Mart better than Target and if so, why?
Thanks.

in response to katts... I feel exactly the opposite, I wonder if it's a regional thing... here Wal-Mart is dirty and disorganized and crowded and Target is bright and clean and organized the personnel are neatly dressed and more helpful than the Wal-mart folk.

Okay-I'm a brave enough person to admit it. I prefer Wal Mart to Target. Granted, Target is marketed beautifully inside the store, but anything after that is when they lose their advantage. Target's consumer products like soap, shampoo, makeup, etc. are nearly always more expensive than Wal Mart. Target isn't even close in comparison to Wal Mart's pricing on electronics (tv, dvd, etc). The next point I'll make is where many people will disagree, but I speak from my own experience: Target's clothing, while trendy, is poorly made and can barely make it through a few washings without having threads come loose at the seams, or showing puckering and shrinkage, or snaps or buttons breaking and so on. Honestly, I've never had that happen with any clothing I've purchased from Wal Mart.
The only area I'll give Target credit for is their home furnishings. Their furniture seems to be a good value for the price, and Wal Mart's furniture (apparently made by Sauder, from what I can tell), is clearly poorly made garbage.
I guess you've heard enough from me!

Yes, I do. I'm sad to say.
I grew up shopping at WM because there wasn't a Target anywhere close to where I lived. Mom retired from there after 18 years and her philosophy was If Wal-Mart don't have it, you don't need it. I know WM treats their employees horribly, but I love the one stop shopping, and the cheap prices.
I moved about 5 years ago and there was one Target and two SuperWM's. Target just didn't have the variety of goods that WM has, they only had "stuff" and not food, or car care, or hair stylists. And it seemed that everytime their website said the store had something the store was either out of it or claimed to have never had it. Now this same town has 4 SuperWM's and one Target and one SuperTarget. However, the SuperTarget doesn't have a full line of groceries, they have zero fresh foods, only frozen stuff, and the regular Target stuff. Plus they are only a few blocks away from a brand new SuperWM. I don't know anyone who shops at the SuperTarget, mainly because it's out in the middle of no where with nothing else in the HUGE shopping center they built. People around here HATE WM but still shop there, whereas most people don't even think about Target as an option. Around here, it's a local supermarket chain called United and their version of a super grocery store called Market Street, then WM, then an even smaller grocery store Lowes, then maybe Target for food stuffs. For other stuff, it's WM, CVS/Walgreens, the mall and those types of stores, BigLots, then Target.
Funny how things change so drasticly in different parts of the country. :)

I have to say I love Wal-Mart. Target always seems dirty to me, no one to ever help me, check out lanes are very narrow, hard to get through and always busy. There is no way to get out of line if you had to. I am a little claustrophobic and it bothers me when I'm in line at any Target, it also feels junky and cluttered.
Wal-mart has people throughout the store to answer my questions, it isn't cluttered and the Wal-marts I've been in are clean. They also seem to have a better selection of items, I hope this helps.

Wal-Mart isn't more popular it's just that they're everywhere. Target is more select in where they build a store plus they market primarily to metropolitan single moms whereas wal-mart markets primarily to families.
Target and Wal-Mart of course sell the same pre manufactured goods but when it comes to clothing Target destroys Wal-Mart with a righteous vengance like an atom bomb on an ant. Plus Target's home decor and other similar items beats Wal-Mart any day in style and quality.
Target has had a reputation as a "chic" version of Wal-Mart which makes the "in" crowd prefer Target. Sure i can get stuff cheaper at wal-mart but i would rather recieve a shave from a spastic howler monkey with poor depth perception on crack than to wear clothes sold at a wal-mart...it's sooooo trailer trash. I do buy a lot of my clothes from Ross though now that i'm on a budget being married and in love and having kids..gotta sacrifice somewhere....no more Nordstroms for me :(

From the consumers' stand point, Walmart is much better because it offers a wide variety of selection and way lower prices. However, I know that Wal-mart has not been the fairest to its employees, so I may have some reservations for purchasing products there.

I like Wal-mart better in some aspects. In my town walmart is clean, organized, and the aisles are bigger. However, I would rather buy clothes from Target because they are cute. Baby clothes especially.

I HATE WAL-MART! The store in my town is always a mess and never, NEVER has enough cashiers (although the new self-checkouts do help).
For example, just this morning I walked in to Wal-Mart. my watch said 6:58 a.m. but an "associate" stopped me and told me "The store wasn't open yet" (apparently opens at 7:00 am) and that I had to leave.
Now, I walked in the IN door which DOES NOT OPEN automatically from THE INSIDE!!, so I tried to walk over to the OUT door but the Rent-a-cop barked at me with "I TOLD YOU THE STORE IS NOT OPEN AND YOU HAVE TO LEAVE". So I had to wait until some-one walked in the in door so I could leave without buying anything.
Went down the road to a supermarket, got what I needed and went on my way.
I HATE WAL-MART!!

I like both... but I agree that in Mass Walmart (at least the ones I have been to) is a lot dirtier than Target stores....but neither near me has people around to help you if you need it. Once I waited for 20 min in the shoe department of Walmart while they were being called on the intercom. It was nuts! When I am at Target I always find it hard to find someone to help, but their lines are no where near as bad as Walmart.

It totally depends on where I live. I've lived in Idaho, Texas, California and Mexico. Sometimes Wal-Marts are better and sometimes Targets are.
They all suck in CA. Dirty, out-of-stock all the time, and the employees are all pregnant minority teenagers who don't give a damn about anything.
