My wife and I both have a home based business, that we do part time and make any where from $800 to $1500 a month just working part time from home. Our goal is for my wife to stay home with the children our two girls ages 3 and 16. Right now it's part time, but eventually it will be full time for the wife so she can do the business and stay home with the kids.

The company has been in business for over 27 years, does business in 64 countries around the world, did over 3 billion $ in sales sales last year just from people working from home, and is traded on the New York Stock Exchange.

We got started here at http://www.herbalhomebiz.com Take a look, we both do the business and it's our answer to be able to stay home with kids and earn a nice income. Our mentor earns $8,000 a month just from working at home, and she is a single mom!

I am very shy too. It does make it harder to be shy and work but you can do it. I would suggest warehouse jobs. You can apply to distribution centers and places like this. Warehouse work is good pay and you can also be away from the general public.

Working in small grocery stores are fine for shy people if you determine the job you want during your application. You may not want cashier work since you're shy but you could be a stocker or meat, or produce clerk. From time to time you'll come in contact with customers but not that often.

You could try your hand at the post office as a mail handler or another job behind the scenes. Note, it's a complicated process to work for the post office. It can be up to years to get the chance. Working in a mail room at a business is a great job for shy people. Also, if you have computer skills, try office jobs where you'll work one on one with your employer. You can also try being a truck driver where you deliver to businesses.

I share your pain but I find that getting out there and trying makes it easier. I am in the process of looking for a new job myself. I believe once you get on in there then your shyness will get better. Sometimes the scariest things are what we need the most. Just be confident in yourself, do a job search that fits you and go for it. Also, you can always share your concerns with possible employers. Go out for jobs and pick what you want to do the most. If the position is open it should work out.

Another tip, if you have to go for jobs in stores, try working the late shift. You could be a late-night stocker then you wouldn't have to see anyone. Jobs at drug-stores are good too because they're never crowded. It depends on what you want to do and where.

Good luck!

There are a number of jobs that do not place enough emphasis on people or social skills. Unfortuantely, they are also low paying and dead end type jobs.
So personality wise you may not like being around people, but you should develop your people skills so that you can advance your career.
There are jobs in IT industry that require extensive user interaction, but you can easily find jobs that donot place a lot of emphasis on people skils.
At the same time, you can probably get enough opportunity in some of these IT positions (system admin, dekstop support, programmer etc) to be around people and participate in some meetings that will help you overcome your shyness.
