If you are into indie rock, then I recommend The Shins "Oh Inverted World" album. It's one of my favorites ever. It has great songs like "New Slang," "Caring is Creepy" & "Girl Inform Me." I also recommend songs like "Fear You Won't Fall" by Joshua Radin & "Nowhere Warm" by Kate Havnevik or the "Woman King" album by Iron & Wine.
If you like folk, you can't go wrong with classics by Simon & Garfunkel like "Sound of Silence" or "Scarborough Fair."
For punk rock, I recommend "Judy is a Punk" & "I Wanna Be Sedated" by the Ramones or songs by The Clash & The Sex Pistols.
If you like nu-metal, I recommend almost anything by Evanescence or Seether & "Animal I Have Become" & "I Hate Everything About You" by 3 Days Grace (who are best live.)
For rock, I suggest "Ruby Tuesday" by the Rolling Stones, "Bad Moon Rising" by Credence Clearwater, "Love Me Do" by The Beatles, "Happy Jack" by the Who, or well anything by these bands, really.
For country, you can't go wrong with Johnny Cash! ("Folsom Prison Blues" & "Ring of Fire," for example.)
Other random great songs:
"Something to Talk About" by Badly Drawn Boy
"Uh Oh, (It's Morning Time, Again)" by Little Wings
"Save Me" by Aimee Mann
"Sexyback" (it grew on me!) by Justin Timberlake
"You Oughtta Know" by Alanis Morissette
"Run" by Snow Patrol
"Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole
"If You Can't Hold a Man with You Kiss" by Rasputina
"Just Like Heaven" by The Cure
"Because the Night" by Patti Smith
"All Apologies," "Lithium," & "Heart-Shaped Box" by Nirvana
-------------I also very much love the "Heart-Shaped Box" cover
by Evanescence
"Don't Panic" by Coldplay
"King of the Road" by Roger Miller
"Lullaby" by the Dixie Chicks
"Hallelujah" by Jeff Buckley
"The New Kid" by Old 97's
"Otherside" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers
"Limp" by Fiona Apple
"Flood" by Jars of Clay
"Lola" by the Kinks
“What is Left of the Flag” by Flogging Molly
“Start Wearing Purple” by Gogol Bordello
I could go on & on & on.
Music is wonderful. I hope this list or someone else's can help you find great new tunes to enjoy. Peace & Best of Luck!
